Wedding toast teleprompter
Giving a toast and worried about losing your place? Paste your speech into the teleprompter, set a comfortable speed, and read it in big letters from your phone or tablet.
Open the teleprompterSetting it up
- Paste your toast into the script box. Put a blank line between paragraphs for natural pauses.
- Make the text big. Raise the text size until you can read it at arm's length without squinting.
- Start slow. Most people speak 130 to 160 words a minute, around speed 4. Nerves make people talk faster, so practice at the speed you want, not the speed you'll fall into.
- Tap the screen to pause for laughs, applause or a sip of champagne, and tap again to continue.
- Turn on Do Not Disturb so a text doesn't cover your speech mid-toast.
Tips for a great toast
- Keep it short. Two to three minutes is plenty, roughly 300 to 450 words. The script box shows your word count and an estimated reading time.
- Practice out loud at least a few times, with the teleprompter at the speed you'll use.
- Look up between lines. The text will wait if you pause. Eye contact with the couple matters more than perfect wording.
- End with the toast itself, and give people a cue to raise their glasses.
- Your script stays on your phone. Nothing is uploaded, so practice notes and inside jokes stay private.
FAQ
Should I use my phone or a tablet?
Either works. A tablet shows more text at a larger size. A phone is easier to hold. If a friend can hold the device for you, it frees your hands for your glass.
Does it work for other speeches?
Yes. Eulogies, award speeches, best man and maid of honor speeches, retirement toasts and presentations all work the same way.
